eShopping

Most major publishers operate according to an "agency model," in which the publisher sets the price to the consumer and ALL retailers (indies, chains, Amazon) agree to sell that e-book at that price to the consumer.

This means that most of our eBooks sell at the same price as Amazon sells them.

This also means that we cannot extend our Frequent Buyer Card discount to eBook purchases.

When books are not under an agency plan, we have priced them just a little above cost in order to build our share of this market. If you find e-book prices that are substantially below ours, that retailer is selling below its cost. Gibson's will never sell below cost for any reason.

Google eBooks cannot be returned once purchased, unless it can be shown and demonstrated that there is a corruption or flaw in the originally downloaded file that prevents its use.

Our eCommerce transactions are hosted through IndieCommerce.

The following is the IndieCommerce security statement:

Security Statement
To protect the security of the information you give us when you order online, the IndieCommerce family of sites uses SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technology. SSL encrypts your information so that no one other than IndieCommerce sites will be able to decode it. SSL establishes a secure connection between your computer and our computers, and that connection remains secure until you complete or cancel an order.
How will you know if your connection is secure? Simply check the lower left or right corner of your browser window after you access the server. If you see a closed lock or an unbroken key (depending on what browser you are using), SSL is working.

New books, new trailers

Howard Frank Mosher, a beloved American novelist and winner of the 2011 New England Independent Booksellers Association's President's Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts, returns with a memoir that is both a chronicle of his recent 100-city book tour across America and a reflection on his development as a writer. Mr. Mosher will be at Gibson's Bookstore for a reading and signing on Thursday April 19th, 2012, at 7 p.m. Enjoy this slideshow, from his cross-country trip.

What kind of sidelines/gift items would you like to see at Gibson's? Plus upcoming author events. May 9th, 2012
A lot of bookstores look more like gift shops now. Gibson's will never go very far in that direction, but it's true we could do a LOT MORE with non-book items.
What would you like to see us add when we move into a larger space next year? A broader line of greeting cards? More funny gift items? (We know where to get The Funny, and it isn't well represented downtown.)  Should we have a serious stationery section--elegant (but not too expensive) paper and writing materials? How about educational materials, toys, games, more stuff for kids?
We'll have room for a lot of new lines. Please let us know what you think--what directions you'd like to see our non-book inventory move in--what products you'd love to see downtown. Email me with your thoughts. Thank you!
